1. Have faith on your instincts
As a solo traveler, you will learn to develop good instincts overtime on the road, and that is really going to help you. It is obvious that different people have different instincts and then learns different ways to deal with situations, so what works for one can be totally different for others, but my piece of advice to you at the end of the day is, learn to trust your instincts!
2. Dress up like a local
Now, this tip might come off to you as a highly controversial one as women are theoretically allowed to wear whatever their heart pleases, but that’s just not realistic. Cover your hair and wear long sleeves or loose clothes if you have to. If you are traveling to an orthodox place, it is often good that you don’t draw unnecessary attention to yourself if you just want some ‘me time’.

3. Don’t tell people your address
Now let me blind you with the flash of the obvious. If you are a woman and are traveling alone, and along the way you meet people, make sure you don’t mention where you are staying at any cost, especially if you are feeling uncomfortable. Meet a local point or landmark in case you’ve made plans.
4. Don’t get wasted
It is never a good idea to get blitzed drunk while traveling alone. By doing this, you’ll open yourself up to all sorts of problems.
5. Join a day tour if you feel uncomfortable alone.
Go to a market and spice tour with Turkish flavors. You can also go to a cooking class. It will immensely help you get comfortable on your trip later on.
6. Read situations accordingly
If you feel uncomfortable or nervous in anyway, it’s really important that you learn to read such situations as a solo female traveler and get the hell out of there. And don’t worry about being rude or offending other people because self-preservation is the most important thing you should do to be safe.
7. When necessary, avoid being too “forward”
Remember that women who are very outgoing can be seen as being “forward” in many cultures around the world. This means that you need to avoid anything from being super chatty at the shops to dressing in tight clothes, and even making direct eye contact with men while crossing the street. Learn to lean on the side of caution.
8. Do the booking in advance
Showing up in a new city or town with nothing booked is the worst feeling in the world. Just to avoid any unwanted scenarios, make sure to make arrangements for accommodation and other trips beforehand. If you are careful about these things, you won’t have to hustle through the night to find a place to stay, especially when you are a woman.
9. Carry a whistle
There are built-in whistles in the straps of many great backpacks because you’ll never know when you might need a travel safety whistle.
10. Don’t forget to carry a doorstop
Just in case someone may barge into your flimsy hotel room at night, it is always advisable to carry a small plastic door stop. It hardly takes up any space.
So are you ready to hit the road solo?
I hope this list helps you in your next trip. Be safe ladies!
